Tailspin Ale Fest is Louisville's premier outdoor craft beer festival, held annually at historic Bowman Field -- one of the oldest continuously operating commercial airports in the United States. Now in its 13th year, the festival surrounds attendees with aircraft on display and occasional flyovers while they sample 250+ craft beers from 50+ breweries, including a dedicated section showcasing Kentucky breweries. The 100% outdoor setting at the airfield creates a one-of-a-kind atmosphere unlike any other beer festival in the region.
The 2026 Tailspin Ale Fest takes place Saturday, March 7, with First Class VIP admission at 2:00 PM and Coach General Admission at 3:00 PM, running through 7:00 PM. General Admission tickets are $60 and include a souvenir beer cup and samples from all participating vendors. First Class VIP tickets are $90 and add one hour early entry, a food voucher, a gift, and the souvenir cup. Designated Driver admission is $15. The event sells out every year with no gate sales -- all tickets must be purchased in advance.
Louisville is a city that knows its spirits -- bourbon built the local economy and still defines its identity. But when HB Productions launched Tailspin Ale Fest in 2014, they bet that the city's growing craft beer community deserved its own signature event. Rather than booking a convention center or park, they chose one of Louisville's most distinctive landmarks: Bowman Field, a working airport that dates back to 1919 and sits just minutes from the Highlands neighborhood. The result is a beer festival with a personality entirely its own -- vintage and modern aircraft on the tarmac, the occasional buzz of a plane overhead, and thousands of beer lovers milling among the hangars and runways.
The aviation theme runs deep. Tickets are labeled "First Class" for VIP and "Coach" for general admission. The festival bills itself as Louisville's "Winter Warmer," timed in early March to mark the unofficial end of the cold season. Over thirteen years, Tailspin has grown from a promising newcomer to one of the biggest social events in Louisville, regularly selling out well in advance. The 250-plus beers from 50-plus breweries are supplemented by a growing roster of entertainment -- OVW Wrestling matches on the tarmac, a Silent Disco, a Cigar Lounge, an ESPN Watch Lounge for catching early March Madness games, and the popular Fly-Girls Photo Op.
What keeps Tailspin on the calendar year after year is the combination of spectacle and substance. The dedicated Kentucky brewery section gives local producers a spotlight, while the national lineup ensures variety. Pre-sale events at Evergreen bar locations have become mini-events of their own, creating buzz months before the main festival. For Louisville, a city with no shortage of things to drink, Tailspin Ale Fest has carved out a niche by pairing great beer with an experience you simply cannot get anywhere else.
