Asheville Beer Week is a multi-week celebration of craft beer culture in Asheville, North Carolina — a city that has earned the title "Beer City USA" four times and boasts more breweries per capita than any city in the country. Spanning roughly two weeks each May, the event features a packed schedule of tastings, beer dinners, educational sessions, special releases, collaborative brews, tours, and community happenings hosted by breweries and beer-centric businesses across Asheville.
The celebration culminates in the Beer City Festival, held at Roger McGuire Green in downtown Asheville. This anchor event brings together 30+ North Carolina breweries in a single outdoor venue, offering attendees unlimited 5-ounce pours along with hard cider, wine, a festival food court, and a live community concert. The $55 admission includes an official Beer City Festival tasting mug and access to all beverages and entertainment. Proceeds benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters of WNC and the Asheville Brewers Alliance.
Asheville Beer Week is collaboratively organized by the Asheville Brewers Alliance and a dedicated group of volunteers from the local beer industry. The event serves as both a celebration and an economic driver, drawing craft beer enthusiasts from across the country to experience the concentration of brewing talent that makes Asheville one of America's premier beer destinations.
Asheville's identity as a craft beer capital was already well-established when the inaugural Asheville Beer Week launched in May 2012. The city had won the "Beer City USA" poll for the first time in 2009, and a growing cluster of innovative breweries — from pioneers like Highland Brewing and Pisgah Brewing to newcomers like Wicked Weed and Burial Beer — was attracting national attention. The Asheville Brewers Alliance, the local trade group representing the city's craft producers, saw Beer Week as an opportunity to formalize the celebration and give the community a dedicated annual moment to showcase what made Asheville's beer scene special.
From the start, Asheville Beer Week was designed as a decentralized, community-driven event. Rather than a single ticketed festival, it spread events across dozens of breweries, taprooms, restaurants, and venues throughout the city, encouraging exploration and discovery. The Beer City Festival was added as the capstone event, a concentrated outdoor tasting that brought the community together in one place to close out the festivities.
The 2025 edition carried special significance for the Asheville beer community. Following the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene in late 2024, the celebration became a rallying point for resilience and recovery. Under the banner "Raise a Glass to Resilience," the 2025 Beer Week demonstrated that every pint poured, every ticket sold, and every event attended contributed directly to the revitalization of Asheville's craft beverage industry. This spirit of perseverance through community has become central to the event's identity, reflecting the same independent, creative ethos that made Asheville a beer destination in the first place.
