Zeeco Oktoberfest Tulsa is one of America's longest-running and most celebrated Oktoberfest celebrations, entering its 47th year in 2026. Named USA Today 10Best's #1 Oktoberfest in America for both 2024 and 2025, the festival transforms River West Festival Park into an authentic Bavarian village patterned after Oktoberfest Munich. Over four days each October, attendees experience international and local German bands on dueling stages, over 200 taps of German and local beers, traditional Bavarian food, arts and crafts, competitions, and family activities.
The festival is deeply rooted in Tulsa's German-American heritage and is organized by the German-American Society of Tulsa (GAST), which has been part of the event since its founding in 1979. With its accessible $15 general admission price — and a free Zeeco Family Free Day on Friday from 11am to 4pm — the festival is one of the most affordable major beer events in the country, drawing families and beer enthusiasts alike. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
Musical entertainment features authentic German bands alongside polka acts, with past headliners including Das Glockenspiel, Dorfrocker, the GAST Blaskapelle, and Ohio's Chardon Polka Band on dueling stages. The festival's combination of authentic cultural programming, affordable access, and genuine community spirit has earned it consistent national recognition.
Tulsa's Oktoberfest traces its origins to 1979, when a group of native-born Germans living in Tulsa decided to bring the spirit of Munich's legendary festival to Oklahoma. These founding members would go on to formally establish the German-American Society of Tulsa (GAST) on January 24, 1980, incorporating as a nonprofit corporation — but the Oktoberfest celebration came first. In a real sense, the festival gave birth to the organization, not the other way around.
What started as a community cultural celebration grew steadily over the decades, becoming one of Tulsa's signature annual events. The German-American Society remained at the heart of the operation, ensuring that authenticity was never sacrificed for scale. The festival's musical acts were sourced directly from Germany and the German-American polka tradition, the food stayed true to Bavarian recipes, and the bier flowed from traditional German styles alongside local Oklahoma craft offerings. This commitment to authenticity is what distinguished Tulsa's Oktoberfest from the many imitators that cropped up across the country.
National recognition came in a major way when USA Today's 10Best readers' choice poll named Zeeco Oktoberfest Tulsa the #1 Oktoberfest in America in 2024 — and then again in 2025. The back-to-back wins validated what Tulsans had known for decades: their Oktoberfest was something special. As the festival approaches its 47th year, it stands as a testament to what happens when a community institution is built on genuine cultural pride rather than commercial trend-chasing. The German-American Society of Tulsa, which has been there since day one, continues to serve as the event's steward, ensuring that each year's celebration honors the traditions that started it all in 1979.
