Beer Under Glass is the official kickoff event for Illinois Craft Beer Week, hosted by the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild on the rooftop of the Harris Theater at Millennium Park in downtown Chicago. The festival features craft beer from more than 80 Illinois and out-of-state breweries in one of the city's most distinctive settings — a rooftop terrace with sweeping views of the Chicago skyline. All proceeds support the Guild. The 2025 edition is Friday, May 9, with VIP early entry at 4:30 PM and GA from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. GA is $55, VIP is $65. ImBIBE members receive a complimentary VIP upgrade with GA purchase.
Beer Under Glass began around 2010 as a signature event of the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild, which was founded in 1997 to serve as a unified voice for the state's brewing industry. The festival was conceived as the opening celebration for Illinois Craft Beer Week, a statewide event that includes hundreds of events at breweries, bars, and restaurants across Illinois.
The event's name originally referenced Garfield Park Conservatory, where attendees sipped craft beer while wandering among tropical plants inside the historic glass-enclosed botanical garden. That combination of craft beer and extraordinary architecture became the festival's signature. Over the years, the event has moved to Chicago Union Station's Great Hall and most recently the Harris Theater Rooftop Terrace at Millennium Park — each location reinforcing the festival's identity as a craft beer event that's as much about the setting as the beer. With 80+ breweries pouring, it offers one of the most comprehensive surveys of Illinois craft brewing in a single evening.
