Big Texas Beer Fest is Dallas' original craft beer festival, founded by Chad and Nellie Montgomery after they attended the Great American Beer Festival in Denver in 2010 and were inspired to bring a similar experience to North Texas. First held in 2012, the festival has grown into one of the most anticipated beer events in Texas, well-known for its curated lineup of exclusive, rare, and one-off beers that can't be found on store shelves.
The festival takes place annually at the Fair Park Automobile Building in Dallas and features 65+ breweries pouring over 300 beers, ciders, hard seltzers, hard kombuchas, and meads. General admission tickets are $45 and include a commemorative tasting cup and a sampling card with 12 two-ounce samples. Additional sampling cards can be purchased for $5. VIP tickets at $80 provide early entry at 1:30 PM (GA starts at 3:00 PM), a glass tasting cup, and a swag bag. VIP tickets consistently sell out within weeks of release.
The Big Texas Beer Fest also supports the local community, having raised nearly $60,000 for the North Texas Food Bank. The 2025 event marked the 13th annual festival, and the combination of rare beer access, live music from local bands, food trucks, and a passionate craft beer community keeps attendees coming back year after year.
Big Texas Beer Fest started with a trip to Denver. In September 2010, Chad and Nellie Montgomery attended the Great American Beer Festival and were so inspired by the experience that they decided to bring something similar home to Dallas. At the time, North Texas had no dedicated craft beer festival of its own, and the Montgomerys — who would go on to build the event production company Brewvolution, LLC — set out to change that. The first Big Texas Beer Fest debuted in 2012 at the Fair Park Automobile Building, a historic Art Deco venue on the grounds of the State Fair of Texas. It was Dallas' original craft beer festival, and it struck a nerve immediately.
The festival has sold out every year since its second edition, a streak that speaks to both the quality of the event and the explosive growth of craft beer culture in Texas. What keeps people coming back is the curation: Big Texas Beer Fest is known not just for volume — over 100 breweries and 450-plus beers, ciders, seltzers, hard kombuchas, and meads — but for exclusive, rare, and one-off pours that cannot be found on store shelves. VIP tickets routinely sell out within weeks of release. The Dallas Observer has named it the city's best beer festival two years running, and the event has helped provide more than 250,000 meals through its ongoing partnership with the North Texas Food Bank. For Chad Montgomery, who now works full-time as an event producer, and Nellie, the "party architect" behind Brewvolution, the festival remains a labor of love — a grassroots idea born at GABF that became a Dallas institution.
