The Mountaineer Brewfest is Wheeling, West Virginia's premier craft beer festival, held annually on the third Saturday of August at the scenic Heritage Port along the Ohio River. Now in its 11th year for 2025, the festival showcases West Virginia's finest craft breweries and has raised over $320,000 for local charities through festival proceeds and tips.
General admission ($40 Early Bird, prices increase August 1) includes 10 beer samples, a commemorative mug, and live entertainment from 4 to 10 PM. VIP tickets (~$79 Early Bird) add early entry at 3 PM, special VIP-only beers, a food voucher, 10 additional samples, and a commemorative VIP item. The event is intentionally limited: only 2,200 general admission tickets and 200 VIP tickets are sold, creating an intimate festival atmosphere.
Featuring 20+ West Virginia craft breweries including Screech Owl Brewing, Mountain State Brewing, Bridge Brew Works, Big Timber Brewing, and many more, the Mountaineer Brewfest is a celebration of the Mountain State's growing craft beer scene. The 2026 edition is set for August 15.
The Mountaineer Brewfest was founded in 2015 by Jeff Hayes with a mission to celebrate West Virginia's craft brewing scene while giving back to the Wheeling community. From its inception at Heritage Port — Wheeling's waterfront amphitheater on the banks of the Ohio River — the festival has grown into one of the state's most anticipated beer events.
What sets the Mountaineer Brewfest apart is its focus on West Virginia breweries. While many festivals cast a wide net, this event proudly showcases the Mountain State's own craft brewers, from established names like Mountain State Brewing and Greenbrier Valley Brewing to newer entrants in the growing WV craft beer scene. The limited ticket count of 2,200 GA and 200 VIP ensures every attendee gets quality time with the beers and brewers.
Over its first decade, the festival has raised more than $320,000 for local charities, cementing its role as both a premier beer event and a community fundraiser. Presented by Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack, the Mountaineer Brewfest continues to attract craft beer lovers to Wheeling's beautiful Heritage Port each August.
